this is the last of my three CA1 blog assignments, so you probably won't see anything else until it's needed.
Anyway, this unusual event didn't technically happen today, more like the day before.
Cue story.
Coming home from school at about 6-7 p.m. after floorball, I saw two boys playing soccer (or ball, or catch, or kick the ball like a person without legs, or just ball) at the end of a road.
Yeah. They looked like they were having fun. Now that wasn't THAT unusual, but I'm sure you don't see two boys playing soccer on a road meant for motorised vehicles to move on everyday.
Anyway, they were playing, playing, playing, playing, HONK HONK. A woman driver (not degrading women drivers as a whole,
Honking like it were a recreational activity, the woman driver (who has tendencies to drive away from the crime scene), well, drove away while still chatting on her phone.
Ever wonder why Starhub is doing so darn good?
So, after that woman driver sped off, probably to attend the 50% off sale at ISETAN, another woman, who was the mother (I assume) of the kids playing on the road. Shockingly enough, she said in terrible terrible terrible TERRIBLE heartland auntie english '' 'aiyo' that driver 'hor' really no heart 'one' see small 'chillren' (I assume this is auntie for 'children') playing on road also no give way 'one' " Perhaps I might have changed a few words in that sentence, but the gist is there and I SWEAR she said chillren.
Cue comment by myself
Now that's just the smallest thing. Turns out she was sitting at the benches (at the car pick-up point) all along talking to another heartland auntie. And guess what? They didn't stop their kids from playing.
If I were a person immune to bad breath, a saliva shower and a smell of market fish, I would have went up and told the aunties to stop their kids from putting their lives in danger. But, you can't blame me for not doing so. You wouldn't, I bet.
Anyway, branching out to a loosely related topic, but slightly off topic topic,
I can't help to wonder how many people from an older generation who have children and are oblivious to the dangers that roads pose? When you go to orchard road, you see old people, middle aged women dressed in Adiras t-shirts, with children in tow, crossing the busy road. That's just outright dumb and irresponsible. If you are tired of living, throw yourself off a darned building, it's irresponsible to kill your kid. Road safety and danger awareness should be part of a government scheme, you can never be too safe on the road. Then again, I am one of those who jay-walk, but it's fine, because I am Way-JAY WALKING. Ha-ha. You get it?
Back to story
Shaking my head in disgust (or more of trying to flick the stupid mosquito off my head), I stepped into the lift. Oh great.
A puddle of bright (or it could be dark, I was tired) yellow liquid.
Sigh, who was so careless to spill their chrysanthemum tea?
I trudged (yes I did, I was that tired) up the stairs and unlocked the gate.
In spite of me making a mental note not to care about stuff that don't involve me, I took a peek down to the clocktower of sorts where the two runts were playing, and guess what? They still were playing, their parents obviously senile, forgetting about the almost death experience.
Small children (8 years < ), are not to be blamed for these stuff. The parents are responsible for bringing them up properly and teaching them about safety and what's right and wrong.
Oh well. I'm poking my long nose (sound familiar?) into where it doesn't belong.
Now although that sounded boring, but 'tis not everyday you see chillren (oh man the word is growing on me) playing on the road, with their parents oblivious of the evident danger their chillr-children are in and finding out that somebody spilt his drink in the lift.
Well, that was my story.
Maybe I should right a book about lefts.
See you when I do
Downy
Edit: I heard that just today, (18/01/08), that two victorians had gotten knocked down by a bus.
Now why does that keep happening? The roads here are not less dangerous than the ones in Marine Parade, yet the 7 odd years I've lived there, nothing happened.
It all boils down to parenting and alertness. I don't think the driver is to blame here, though I didn't see jack shit, I still think those Victorians were asking for it. No bus driver knocks down a person who crosses the road while observing safety unintentionally. That said, I hope those Victorians are fine, because after all, the are Victorians.
Perhaps they should break a bone or two before they observe road safety, young bones repair easily,.
